IV Sedation

You are not alone if you don’t like coming to the dental office. This is the unfortunate reality for some patients. Depending on your level of anxiety and fear, there are different modalities for sedation dentistry. Sedation dentistry is a term that describes the methods used to manage pain and anxiety while at the same time allowing patients to respond to verbal commands and physical stimulation.

IV sedation is a single drug modality with Midazolam. Midazolam reduces anxiety and is given to produce amnesia. The sedative effects often cause the patient to become drowsy and relaxed. This will help to decrease your anxiety and keep you as comfortable as possible. This sedative is administered directly into a vein for the deepest level of sedation without general anesthesia.

Often times, iv sedation has been incorrectly referred to as sleep dentistry. There is a difference. With sedation, patients feel very drowsy during the procedure however the patient is actually awake throughout the treatment process.

If you choose IV sedation, a responsible companion must accompany you to and from the visit.
