The first picture shows a tooth that just had a root canal. Notice how much tooth structure is left over. After a restoration is placed aka “core”, this tooth will need a crown for two reasons. Firstly, the amount of tooth structure left over makes it susceptible to potential fracture. Secondly, this tooth no longer has same blood supply which innately makes it very weak.
